The new district attorney for the Augusta Judicial Circuit says she doesn’t plan any major changes in the office that prosecutes crimes in Richmond, Columbia and Burke counties.

Ashley Wright, named to the post Tuesday by Gov. Sonny Perdue, also said she intends to run this fall for a full four-year term.

“I’m just excited to keep serving in the same, yet again, a different way,” said Ms. Wright.

An assistant prosecutor for nearly 12 years, Ms. Wright recently became the chief assistant district attorney for William Bowcutt. He had taken over the district attorney’s duties while the governor decided who would replace former top prosecutor Daniel J. Craig, who is now a Superior Court judge.

Ms. Wright, 40, earned her undergraduate and law degrees from Randolph-Macon Women’s College and Mercer University, following in her father’s footsteps in choosing a law career.
She serves as an adjunct professor at Georgia Military College and previously served as a law clerk at Groover & Childs of Macon.

She is a member of the Augusta Bar Association and Augusta Symphony Inc.
