Georgia Military College Names Junior College Educators of the Year

Georgia Military College Names Junior College Educators of the Year:  Lynda Lamarre (GMC-Augusta) and Scott Dickson (GMC-Valdosta) honored

(Milledgeville, Georgia) April 15, 2016 – Today, Georgia Military College announced thatMs. Lynda Lamarre (GMC-Augusta) has been named the 2015-2016 Junior College Character Educator of the Year and Mr. Scott Dickson (GMC-Valdosta) has been named the 2015-2016 Junior College Educator of the Year.  Ms. Lamarre and Mr. Dickson were chosen for this great honor among nominees from GMC’s 12 campuses.

Ms. Lynda Lamarre perfectly exemplifies the mission of the college to produce productive citizens, encouraging both elevation of academic ability and strengthening of character.  As a professor of History at GMC-Augusta, she exemplifies a Jeffersonian spirit that good citizens must be educated and enabled citizens.  She has always sought innovative methods to engage students in the classroom to think critically about information, causes and effects.  She challenges students not only to think and understand better, but to use that knowledge to be better people.  Students love her engaging style and the concern she communicates for them as individuals, while challenging them to be responsible and effective in all phases of their lives.

Mr. Scott Dickson is GMC-Valdosta’s top Learning Support Services (LSS) English and Reading instructor.  In his more than five years at GMC Valdosta, he has become a valuable asset not only to the LSS Department but also, and most importantly, to our students.  His ability to connect with students and his dedication to the institution are unparalleled.  Scott is truly a student-centered instructor.  He knows his students’ names by the second day of class and adapts his teaching style to better meet their needs.  He continually strives to make and keep his classes engaging, energetic, and fun. His witty comments and unvarying liveliness in the classroom bring smiles to the most somber of faces.  Considering his classes are LSS English and Reading that is no small feat!  He is continually improving his classes to create a more vibrant learning community. His concern and focus is always to do what is best for his students.

Ms. Lamarre and Mr. Dickson will be formally recognized during Georgia Military College’s Mothers’ Day Parade on May 6, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. on Grant Parade in Milledgeville.
