Former GMC Football Player to Compete in Super Bowl
Trent Brown, Left Tackle for the New England Patriots, and GMC Head Football Coach and Athletic Director, Bert Williams meet up in Atlanta ahead of Brown’s first Super Bowl game on Sunday
To be able to play for the national championship title in a Super Bowl game is a dream for thousands of young men across the country, but for only some, that dream becomes a reality. That’s the case for Trent Brown, an offensive tackle for the New England Patriots, starting as the left tackle in all games during the 2018 season. Before Brown got his start in the NFL, he played football for Georgia Military College.

The Albany, Ga. native came to GMC in 2011 to play offensive tackle. Under the direction of GMC Athletic Director and Head
Football Coach, Bert Williams, Brown mastered his craft and was able to get a spot on the football team at the University of Florida after graduating from GMC. In 2015, he was drafted to the National Football League. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 7th round with the 244th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Nearly four years later, Brown is competing for his first Super Bowl title with the New England Patriots. Brown says he never had a backup plan, that he needed football to work.
“I never had a plan B, either football or basketball had to work, and luckily football did,” Brown said. “This is my first time even in the post season, period. It still hasn’t really hit me yet that I’m about to play in the Super Bowl but it’ll probably hit me Saturday night or early Sunday. It’s been a fun experience. Hopefully it won’t be my last.”
Brown says his time at Georgia Military College helped him evolve into the player he is today.
“I truly believe the things I learned there [at GMC] helped me get to where I am today,” Brown said. “I went there with the goal in mind that I was going to graduate, go to a D-1 university, then hopefully live out my dream of playing football. Now I am. GMC is definitely a second home and it forever will be.”

Brown’s GMC coach, Williams says watching one of his former players go on to fulfill a career dream is both exciting and gratifying.
“It’s always great to see one of your former players continue on and be successful, especially so when they attain a level like the Super Bowl,” Williams said. “It is exciting and gratifying to know you had a part in his development, helping him make the transformation from high school athlete to collegiate athlete at Georgia Military College. To see him graduate from GMC, go and do great things at the University of Florida, and then be highly successful in the NLF is extremely rewarding.”
