The History degree at Georgia Military College helps students focus on three specific areas: the ability to critically evaluate a historical event or theme, the development of cultural and geographical literacy, and the ability to conduct research in preparation for advanced learning.  Our associate degrees prepare students to begin their journeys toward the bachelor’s degree in the field, or pursue studies in other fields such as International Affairs, American Studies, Classical Studies, or Law.  It can also help prepare students for studies in other fields related to the social sciences, such as Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, and Paralegal Studies.

Career Paths
High School Teachers
High school teachers teach academic lessons and various skills that students will need to attend college and to enter the job market.
Political Scientists
Political scientists study the origin, development, and operation of political systems.
Sociologists
Sociologists study society and social behavior.
Writers and Authors
Writers and authors develop written content for various types of media.
Anthropologists and Archeologists
Archeologists Anthropologists and archeologists study the origin, development, and behavior of humans.
Archivists, Curators, and Museum Workers
Archivists and curators oversee institutions’ collections, such as of historical items or of artwork. Museum technicians and conservators prepare and restore items in those collections.

Students will be able to use this degree as a foundation for further studies in the fields of history, government, teaching, and research. To be successful, students need to move on to the bachelor’s degree in history. History is a diverse major that can lead to a variety of careers depending on the educational pathway. With a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree, history majors may want to consider jobs as a lawyer, librarian, foreign service officer, archivist, lobbyist, congressional aide, public relations staffer, campaign worker, museum director, high school teacher, or college history professor.
