Overview
Who should attend a military college?
Students who desire to be leaders and who are looking for an environment that will engage them in a structured military-style program which is both challenging and rewarding are they type of cadets we are looking for at GMC. This lifestyle is one that pushes cadets to improve themselves in every aspect of their lives. A cadet’s ability to adapt to the daily life that they enter here allows them to gain valuable life skills that will deliver a benefit far beyond their two years at GMC.
Attending a military college does not always mean a cadet plans to serve in the armed forces. What is gained from attending a military college is the opportunity to develop leadership aptitudes along with knowledge of how to be a responsible citizen. All the while, cadets are participating in a rigorous academic curriculum and a structured lifestyle that offers myriad of benefits to all who chose to rise to the challenge.
This is not a place where the undisciplined should enroll. If you, or your parents, think “you need discipline” then this may not be the place for you. But if you are open minded, ready to be involved and are willing to demonstrate a strong desire to test yourself in a setting that is meant to provide you with an excellent foundation for your future, then it is time for you to Step Up and Stand Out!!
What are your chances of being accepted for admission as a cadet?
Not everyone who applies for admission will be offered an invitation to become a cadet at Georgia Military College. For example; GMC received over 450 cadet applications for Fall Quarter 2016 for 100 available spaces. The very competitiveness of entry into this program demonstrates the need for such a program.
You may receive a Notice of Admission based on your general academic qualifications, but you must also receive an official offer of admission to become a cadet from the Office of Admissions providing you with the necessary details on reporting to campus for the term you have been invited to enroll.
An invitation to become a cadet at GMC is presented based on several factors, which include:
- Your qualifications and selection for the specific cadet program you have applied for.
- Your overall academic background.
- Your ability to provide the resources necessary to sustain your academic program while attending GMC.
- And available space in the cadet dormitory (Baugh Barracks) is also a factor in offering invitations as we only have a total of 254 beds in the Barracks.

Admissions Process
In order to be considered for admission to the GMC Corps of Cadets you should follow the application procedures listed below:

Admissions Process Step by Step:
Step 1: Start your Application
Apply for admissions by clicking the “Start Here” button in the top right-hand corner.
Step 2: Application Fee
When you are prepared to “Submit” your completed application, you can use a debit/credit card to pay the non-refundable $35 application fee online.
Step 3: Submit Transcripts
High School Students:
You need to submit your current official high school transcripts if you are still in high school and upon graduating send the final transcript to the admissions office.
Transfer Students:
You need to submit your official high school and college transcript to the admissions office.
Home Schooled Students :
If you are a home schooled student, you should provide the following supporting documentation to the Office of Admissions to complete your application for admission:
- a) Combined SAT scores (Critical Reading/Math) of 920 or ACT Composite score of 19
b) A List of all completed coursework
c) A bibliography of textbooks and assigned readings used
d) A writing sample
e) Official GED Transcript
Step 4 : Submit Your Standardized Test Scores (SAT/ACT Scores)
Submit your standardized test scores to the admissions office in order to be able to register for classes. If your scores do not meet certain standards, you will be notified that you have to take the Accuplacer test.
Step 5: Complete FAFSA Application
Log on to www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) for the 2020-21 school year.

Step 6: Complete your Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG) (Georgia Residents Only)
Login to Georgia Futures at www.gafutures.org to complete the Georgia Tuition equalization Grant (GTEG).
Step 7: Verify Status of your FAFSA Application
Once your FAFSA has been successfully submitted and receive by the school (Generally 5-7 Business Days), you may be selected for verification. Log in to: https://gmc.verifymyfafsa.com to find out if you need to complete the verification process of your FAFSA.
Step 8: Put your Financial Plan in Place
Once your FAFSA has been awarded a dollar amount, contact financial aid to put your payment in place for the upcoming term. Financial Aid Homepage
Step 9: Take Placement Test
GMC requires that most first-time freshman and some transfer students take a placement test to ensure proper placement into college coursework. For more information on placement tests and preparing for them, please click here. Students who do not score high enough on the placement tests will be required to take remedial courses. Please take the time to prepare for your test.
- If you have never attended college – If you have the following test scores, you are exempt from placement testing:
- SAT Critical Reading score of 480 or greater within five years from date of application
- New SAT (after March 2016) Reading score of 26 or greater within five years from date of application
- ACT English score of 20 or greater within five years from date of application
- SAT mathematics score of 440 or greater within five years from date of application
- New SAT (after March 2016) Math score of 24 or greater within five years from date of application
- ACT mathematics score of 18 or greater within five years from date of application
- If you are transferring from another college – If you have English 101 and Math 109 (or equivalent) at you previous institution, you may be exempt from placement testing.
Step 10: Health Requirements
As a cadet, you are required to provide certain medical documentation to include your medical history, a completed physical examination and immunizations to live on campus. Go to the link below and complete the required medical documents as required for all cadets.
GMC Medical Record Requirement
Those who have completed U.S. Basic Training and/or Advanced Individual Training (AIT) or have complete MEPS or DODMERB physical though Army ROTC/USCGA may provide copies of the DD Form 214 and enlistment contract with all attachments if available.
Bring a copy of all documents with you upon arrival at Baugh Barracks on move in day.

Step 12: Register for Class
You must complete all previous step successfully to register for classes as a cadet. Once you have done so and have your financial plan in place contact the registration office at 478-387-4958/4959 to register for classes as a cadet
