Cadet Staff Sergeant Isaac Butts recently signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Butts, a 6’10” Milledgeville native, has been a varsity starter the last two seasons. Cadet Butts signed his letter in front of his mother, Ms. Kim Goddard, stepfather, Mr. Sanford Ross, Head Basketball Coach Chris Barfield, and Prep School Principal John Thornton. The signing took place in the Sibley Room of the Sibley-Cone library located on the campus of Georgia Military College.

Butts has scored 462 points over the past two seasons. Isaac is hoping that “the team comes together and can make it into the post season.” Major Chris Barfield, first year Head Coach, is proud of Isaac since he is the first basketball player he has coached in his twelve years at GMC who has signed a basketball scholarship.

Cadet Butts has visited the school in Boone, NC which approached him when he participated in the Southern Prep Hoops Camp hosted by Coach James Lunsford. He is a multi-sport athlete who will begin his collegiate career in July 2007 when he enrolls for the summer term at ASU.

Appalachian State University is a NCAA Division I School that competes in the Southern Conference. Butts hopes to play center for the Mountaineers while competing on the next level. All of us at GMC wish this fine young man all the best in his future.
