Austin Quillian Receives Georgia Military College 2022 Mason Cup Award for Second Consecutive Year

Georgia Military College (GMC) Junior College (JC) Athletics hosted their sophomore recognition ceremony for spring sports on April 26, 2022, at the Bulldogs softball game. Sophomore student-athletes who participated in Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf, and Rifle were recognized for their hard work and dedication to their sport. During the ceremony, the Mason Cup Award was presented to the 2022 recipient, Austin Quillian.

Quillian, a native of Eatonton, GA, received the award for the second year in a row. In 2021 and 2022 he ranked the number one player on the GMC JC Men’s Golf team. He is a two-time NJCAA All-American and posted a 74.2 scoring average this season. He won the Lake Sinclair Invitational, had a 2nd place finish at the GCAA Championship, finished 3rd at the Golden Tiger Invitational, and added four other top 20 finishes.

“Everyone needs an Austin Quillian on their team,” said GMC JC Men’s Golf Coach, Gary Guyer. “He is solid as a rock and leads by example. He makes everyone around him better. No one works harder than Austin. You know that when he is competing that he is giving you everything he has.”

The Mason Cup is an annual award named for Mr. and Mrs. Harold D. Mason, Sr., of Milledgeville, who established an endowment fund in 2001 to support the GMC Junior College Golf program. Each year the award is presented to someone who best represents the game of Golf and the institution.

The inscription on the cup, which Mr. Mason authored, reads, “Golf and life will put your character to the test. Smile at the lie, have faith, achieve by effort, be determined and surpass the test.” Mr. Mason along with President Caldwell presented the Mason Cup to Quillian. Mason said, “I am honored and proud to be associated with GMC through the golf program.”
