Professor of Military Science Change of Command

A Change of Command Ceremony was held on June 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the legislative chamber. LTC James Lopez (left), outgoing Professor of Military Science who served in this capacity for four years, transferred authority of the Old Capitol Guard Battalion to LTC Tom Nelson (right), incoming Professor of Military Science, who officially assumed command of the Battalion. The Change of Command Ceremony is a time-honored tradition which formally symbolizes the continuity of authority as the command is passed from one individual to another. The Ceremony has been practiced within the Armed Forces for over two centuries; it is a transfer of total responsibility, authority, and accountability from one individual to another.
