Hunter Newell Serves as Page at Capitol

Hunter Newell, a seventh grader at Georgia Military College Prep School, was recently given the opportunity to serve as a page at the Capitol in Atlanta. This special honor was arranged by Senator Don Balfour (GA District 9) whose son is deployed with Hunter’s father, SSG Edward (Buddy) McKenzie, with the 48th Brigade. Hunter said, “My favorite subject in school is Social Studies and I am very interested in politics and how our government works, so this was a huge honor. My duties as page included taking notes and messages back and forth to various senators, usually from lobbyists about the current bill.” When asked about the most memorable part of this experience, Hunter responded, “Without a doubt, it was meeting Governor Perdue and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.” Hunter is pictured with his mom, Melissa McKenzie, Governor Perdue and Senator Balfour.
