January 6, 2012 Local teen on the way to obtain Eagle Scout rank From staff reports The Union-Recorder The Union-Recorder Fri Jan 06, 2012, 05:36 PM EST MILLEDGEVILLE — Local teen Ryan Thorne has just completed his Eagle Scout service project with the help of fellow scout members.

The Georgia Military College Prep School senior is serving his second term as the Boy Scouts of America Troop 87 senior patrol leader, earning a total of 31 merit badges since participating in the Boy Scouting program since the first grade.

Thorne planned, prepared and built four wooden picnic tables for the playground area at Eagle Ridge Elementary School not only for his Eagle Scout service project, but to help the school receive a “Making the Shade” grant.

Since its introduction in 1912 to 2010, more than 2 million young men earned the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. The title of Eagle Scout is held for life, thus giving rise to the phrase, “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”
