Georgia Military College Joins the Association of American Colleges and Universities

(Milledgeville, GA) February 2, 2004 – The Board of Directors of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) has approved Georgia Military College for membership. AAC&U is the leading national association devoted to advancing and strengthening liberal learning for all students, regardless of academic specialization or intended career. Since its founding in 1915, the membership has grown to more than 900 accredited public and private colleges and universities of every type and size.

AAC&U functions as a catalyst and facilitator, forging links among presidents, administrators, and faculty members who are engaged in institutional and curricular planning. Its mission is to reinforce the collective commitment to liberal education at both the national and local level and to help individual institutions keep the quality of student learning at the core of their work as they evolve to meet new economic and social challenges. AAC&U’s strategic plan includes the following priorities:
-Mobilizing collaborative leadership–for educational and institutional effectiveness;
-Building faculty capacity–in the context of institutional renewal;
-Strengthening curricula–to serve student and societal needs;
-Establishing diversity–as an educational and civic priority;
-Fostering global engagement–in a diverse but connected world.
Focusing on these priorities, AAC&U runs national initiatives, sponsors meetings and summer institutes, and produces resources, all designed to assist its member institutions in meeting the challenge of providing a high quality education to today’s students.

Georgia Military College is a two-year liberal arts college which offers a student centered educational experience designed to facilitate transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
