MAJ Linda Brown – 2008-2009 Prep School Character Educator of the Year

MAJ Linda Brown, Mathematics Teacher for GMC Prep School was recognized as the GMC Prep School Character Educator of the Year during the 2009 Grand Tattoo and Command Retreat. This award is presented annually to a prep school faculty member for elevating student understanding of ethics and for the creative and innovative manner in which the faculty member inspires students to value ethical behavior. Major Brown was presented with The President’s Award for Excellence medallion, a check for $500, and an engraved watch presented by the GMC Foundation.

MAJ Linda Brown has been a member of the prep school faculty since 2006 and currently teaches Algebra/Geometry/Statistics and Advanced Placement Calculus in the high school. She serves as the co-chair of the prep school character education committee and is a member of the GMC school wide character education advisory committee. MAJ Brown was instrumental in the establishment and development of numerous new prep school character education programs and initiatives. She was also selected by one of her students as the STAR teacher for the 2008 – 2009 school year. When not in the classroom, you can find MAJ Brown on the soccer field where she is the head soccer coach for GMC Prep.

Last year she started a high school girl’s soccer team and in just 2 short years has led them to qualifying for the state playoffs. MAJ Brown lets her students and athletes know on a daily basis that she believes that their success depends more on their character than their intelligence or ability. She reinforces this in the life lessons and personal stories she brings to the classroom from her career as an operations research analyst and systems analyst before she began teaching.

MAJ Brown models the GMC motto “Character Above All” in and out of the classroom every day and was therefore selected as the Prep School Character Educator of the year.
