THE SPECTRUM OF TECHNOLOGY BASICS

This set of workshops will explore the use of technology in the form of picture representations, video modeling and social stories.

The goals of the workshops are to:

  • Introduce technology to those persons who have not had the opportunity to fully explore these options
  • Identify specific needs in the community for the availability of shared technological resources
  • Provide a forum for applying the research-based best practices to the use of technology with persons on the autism spectrum

The sessions are from 6:00pm-7:00pm, but there will be the opportunity for the participants to continue to work with the technology for a longer period or to arrange additional sessions.

MAKING IPADS AND IPODS FUNCTIONAL

Many families and educators are excited about the potential of the iPad and iPod Touch as tools to engage children with autism spectrum disorders on a wide scope of skill areas and venues. The emerging touch tablet technologies provide a unique opportunity for people with challenges to access the content of a vast arena of skill sets including: communication, leisure, token reinforcement, data collection, social skills, academics and many more. This set of workshops will assist in making informed choices about the apps which could be used for specific areas of interest or goals.

The goals of these workshops are:

  • Present practical research based application of technology to achieve curriculum and IEP goals
  • Allow for the exploration of apps and other extensions of basic technology
  • Provide hardware for participants to expand their ability in the technology arena

These workshops will run from 4:30pm-6:30pm on Tuesday evenings.

You can still contribute by making a cash donation or purchasing a luminaria. A luminaria bag is used to honor a survivor or remember a loved one, and they line our track on the night of the event. Each luminaria is $10 and can be purchased on the website.
