Graduates of GMC’s Homeland Security degree program will be prepared to continue their education at a four-year university and eventually work in a variety of settings and capacities such as private businesses, emergency management, safety management, intelligence analysis, private security, airports, law enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Secret Service, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Air Marshals, customs investigators, special agents, military service and border patrol.

Concentration Courses
This course is a broad overview of the expanding homeland security and Emergency management field. This history of homeland security as it evolved from the fields of civil defense, emergency preparedness, and the traditional intelligence community will be discussed.
This course examines the modern problem of terrorism, including its political roots. The history of terrorism both domestically and internationally as well as the structure of operations of terrorist organizations will be discussed.

The field of Homeland Security is varied, incorporating jobs ranging from disaster preparedness to terrorism. The Department of Homeland Security is one of the largest Federal agencies, employing over 183,000 workers – this does not include state and local support staff nor does it include homeland security jobs in the private sector. Those students receiving an associate degree in homeland security will be prepared for employment with state and local emergency management agencies, private security firms, law enforcement agencies, corrections, and the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA). Employment requiring a minimum of a bachelor’s degree would include: cyber security professional, intelligence analyst, air marshals, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
