GMC-Augusta Hosts First Blood Drive Since Start of Pandemic

Georgia Military College’s Augusta Campus Hosts Blood Drive

On Thursday, August 20, 2020, Georgia Military College’s Augusta campus welcomed Shepeard Community Blood Center’s Bloodmobile back to campus for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Blood donations have been down, while the need for donations continued. As GMC-Augusta returned to in seat classes on August 3rd, the campus was eager to help the community with much-needed blood donations. Thursday, the GMC community turned out and donated enough blood to save 42 local lives!

When asked why donating blood was important, Lisa Campbell said, “It helps people and the community. Right now, Shepeard is also testing for Corona antibodies, so people could potentially donate plasma later to help COVID patients.”

Shepeard Community Blood Center is the provider for over 20 hospitals in 30 counties across the two-state area.  GMC-Augusta is proud of its student body, administration, faculty and staff for supporting this incredibly worthy cause.
