U.S. Naval Academy Adds GMC as an Affiliated Preparatory School

United States Naval Academy Adds Georgia Military College as an Affiliated Preparatory School

The United States Naval Academy (USNA) has selected Georgia Military College (GMC) as an affiliated preparatory school for students hoping to earn an appointment there. Currently, GMC is an affiliated preparatory school for the United States Military Academy – West Point, and the United States Coast Guard Academy. In the fall of 2019, Georgia Military College will be an affiliated preparatory school for three of the five United States Service Academies.

As an affiliated preparatory school, GMC will work to prepare candidates selected by either the United States Military, Coast Guard, or Naval Academies for the academic, physical, military, and character development skills they will need when they attend a Service Academy.

Colonel Steve Pitt, Commandant of the GMC Corps of Cadets, says Georgia Military College’s mission reflects the mission of each of the Service Academies for their students.

“Our program is simple, we work with each Service Academy to develop and implement an academic and physical program that not only challenges our scholars, but lays the foundation for them to be successful,” Pitt said. “These men and women are the future military leaders of America and GMC takes this responsibility very seriously with an all-hands-on-deck approach.”

Lieutenant General William. B. Caldwell, IV, President of Georgia Military College, says GMC has the tools to prepare students to attend a Service Academy.

“We are very excited about being added as a Preparatory School for the U.S. Naval Academy, and are working to receive the same designation from the U.S. Air Force Academy,” Caldwell said. “We believe our rigorous academic and physical training program is exactly what young men and women need to best prepare them for success at one of our Service Academies. It is a distinct honor that the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and now the U.S. Naval Academy all recognize our program and our officer and noncommissioned officer leadership as exactly what they want their future cadets to experience. Every candidate who has completed our one year program has been accepted into the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and to West Point. This 100% acceptance rate is a credit to our faculty and military staff ensuring each candidate achieves their full potential.”
