GMC-Milledgeville Welcomes New Executive Director

Georgia Military College's Milledgeville Campus Welcomes New Executive Director

Georgia Military College’s (GMC) Milledgeville campus welcomes Colonel Nelson Kraft as its new Executive Director. In November, Kraft joined the GMC team after retiring from the U.S. Army after a distinguished 24-year career. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry in December of 1994. He has earned two Master Degrees, one from the Air Command and Staff College in Military Operational Art and Science, and the other from the Army War College in Strategic Studies.

Kraft moved to Milledgeville after his last Army assignment in Savannah, Ga. where he served as Brigade Commander of the largest brigade in the Army; responsible for all Army ROTC and JROTC at every participating university, college, and high school in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Kraft says he’s excited to take the next step in his career in the place he says he fell in love with instantly – Milledgeville.

“I’ve evacuated to Milledgeville for the past three years dodging hurricanes in Savannah,” Kraft said. “I instantly fell in love with the city the first time I was here, and with the college too. Milledgeville took us in, no questions asked, and now we look forward to giving back to this wonderful community. I’ve spent the last two years working in higher education in the southeastern U.S. and GMC was the logical and perfect next step. I find nothing more exciting than enabling educators to develop our young adult students into productive members of society.”

Kraft is married to his high school sweetheart, the former Miss Kathy Moser. Together they have two children, Madelynn, a junior at Birmingham Southern College in Alabama, and Nathan, a senior at Islands High School in Savannah. Georgia Military College is excited to have Colonel Kraft join the team in Milledgeville!
