GMC’s Junior College Golf Team are now national champions. They are the champions for the 2017 NJCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship in Chautauqua, New York. The tournament started on June 6-9.

“Thirteen years proved lucky for the GMC JC Golf Team as they snatched the opportunity to bring the 2017 NJCAA National Championship back to Milledgeville and Georgia Military College,” said Bert Williams, GMC’s Athletic Director. “GMC won its first golf National Championship in 2004, and has flirted with a second a couple of times since, but the 2017 GMC Bulldog team took this championship with a slam dunk!”

Coach Josh Miller and his Bulldogs took the championship with a 24 stroke victory, notching their best team score of the week – a 299 – in the final round, 6 strokes better than their nearest challenger.  After opening with a 13 stroke lead on opening day, the Bulldogs shot the best team round every day but the third, which was a 1 stroke margin.  GMC Bulldog golfers Floris Veth and Ashton Denton took advantage of the opportunity in the championship round to shoot their best rounds of the week – a 2 under 70 and a 3 under 69 respectively – and both finished in the top four individuals, securing honors as 1st Team NJCAA All-Americans.
