GMC Cadet receives appointment to United States Military Academy
(Cadet Hunter Knibbe has been appointed to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY.)
19-year-old junior college cadet, Hunter Knibbe is getting the opportunity to attend one of the most prestigious military academies in the United States. Cadet Knibbe received his appointment to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.
“It will be a great honor at the end of four years to be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army”, said Hunter Knibbe. I just can’t wait to serve my country and also get a great education. The leadership opportunity at West Point is second to none and it will definitely prepare me for my career in the Army.”
Cadet Knibbe is a native of Ridgefield, Connecticut. To receive an appointment to the academy, a Cadet must receive a nomination from their United States Senator, Congressman, Vice President or President. Cadet Knibbe received nominations from United States Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Congressman Jim Himes (D-CT 4th District). Cadet Knibbe was also required to have good grades, good test scores, and be physically and medically qualified to be accepted. Knibbe enrolled in the GMC Corps of Cadets Program in August of 2016, and says his time here has greatly prepared him for West Point.
“Georgia Military College helped me so much,” said Knibbe. “I’m in the self-prep service academy for West Point and we take a course load that mimics the United States Military Academy and it’s definitely really tough. I was able to learn time management skills, study skills, and to always reach for the highest grades possible.”
Cadet Knibbe was also a member of GMC’s football team. He plans to either pursue a law degree or a career in military intelligence. Cadet Knibbe will report to the United States Military Academy on July 3, 2017.
