GMC's Augusta campus exceeds goal at quarterly blood drive
On November 3, GMC’s Augusta Campus Community Involvement Club hosted their quarterly blood drive. Every quarter, Missie Usry, the head of the Community Involvement Club, partners with Shepeard Community Blood Center to host blood drives on campus. With roots in downtown Augusta, Shepeard Community Blood center is a non-profit blood center that is the primary blood provider for over 20 local hospitals.
Shepeard celebrated their 38th anniversary last month and has been servicing the CSRA since 1978. When the quarterly drives approach, Shepeard’s recruiters are always more than happy to come to our campus to discuss the importance of donating blood. According to the American Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds and every pint donated has the potential to help save 3 lives.
For this blood drive, GMC-Augusta Campus had a total of 33 donors. Of these 33 donors, there were 23 good units, exceeding Shepeard’s goal of 21 for the day.
