Kurtis Lee Hemrick Jr. named Regimental Commander – 137th Corps of Cadets

Cadet Colonel (C/COL) Kurtis “Lee” Hemrick Jr. has been promoted to the position of Regimental Commander, the highest cadet leadership position for the 137th Corps of Cadets at Georgia Military College.

C/COL Hemrick graduated from Cross Creek High School in Augusta Georgia, in 2013. Hemrick graduated third in his class of 266 with a GPA of 3.89. His activities in high school included: Naval JROTC, where he held the positions of Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander; the National Honor Society, where he attained the position of Vice President; Football, where he was a team captain for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams; Track and Field, where as a team captain, he helped lead his relay teams to the Georgia State Championship in 2012 and 2013, winning the 4 x 400 meter relay in the AAAA category in 2013.

C/COL Hemrick enlisted into the Georgia Army National Guard in December of his senior year of high school. He graduated Basic Combat Training with E Co 3rd BN, 10th IN REG, 3rd CM BDE in September of 2013. He began Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Leonard, MO immediately after, for the MOS 12Y- Geospatial Engineer. While in AIT, Hemrick was assigned as the Student Platoon Sergeant for 10 of the 19 weeks of training. He graduated third out of his class of 12.

Following completion of AIT, Hemrick enrolled in the Early Commissioning Program at Georgia Military College where he is earning an Associate’s Degree in General Studies. While at GMC, he has served as a Battalion Supply Officer, Plebe Company Platoon Sergeant, Regimental Command Sergeant Major, and Battalion Commander. His activities at GMC include: Phi Theta Kappa, of which he is the Vice President; Ranger Challenge, Cross Country, and Student Honor Council. Hemrick has consistently achieved the academic honor of President’s List every quarter that he has attended GMC.

C/COL Hemrick is the recipient of the Kicklighter Scholarship and plans to attend Mercer University in the fall of 2016 to study industrial management.  He plans to commission into the Active Duty Army and branch Infantry.

C/COL Hemrick is his father’s youngest child and his mother’s oldest child. He has three siblings; Brandy (29), Gunner (10), and Jaylen (9).
