GMC Softball’s Tippens, Swart Recognized Nationally For Academics
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Military College women’s softball program is honored to announce that Morgan Tippens and Kacy Swart have been recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their academic success during the 2014-15 academic year.
Tippens, a sophomore outfielder from Covington, Ga., was honored with the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence by the NJCAA for achieving a 4.0 grade-point-average. A record 185 student-athletes earned this award nationwide at two-year colleges during this past academic year.
Tippens was also recognized on the GMC President’s List (3.70 GPA or better) all three quarters during the 2014-15 year.
Swart, also a sophomore outfielder from Covington, was recognized with the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award by the NCAA for earning a GPA in the 3.60-3.79 range during the recent academic year. A total of 1,110 student-athletes at two-year schools across the nation earned this award.
Swart also earned her place on the GMC President’s List during winter and spring quarters for 2014-15.
During the 2014-15 academic year, the NJCAA saw 58,531 student-athletes compete on 3,461 teams in 28 different sports. A record 2,036 student-athletes competing in the NJCAA qualified for an academic award, which is only available to student-athletes who have accumulated at least 45 semester credit hours or 60 quarter credit hours with a minimum 3.60 GPA.
Tippens played in 47 games for GMC during the 2015 season and sported a .955 fielding percentage while stealing seven bases for the Bulldogs.
Swart played in 30 games, batting .324 and drove in 14 runs to go along with seven doubles and a triple.
