GMC Softball Sweeps Truett-McConnell JV, Bunn Records Win No. 100

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Military College softball team completed a doubleheader sweep over the Truett-McConnell College junior varsity by scores of 3-1 and 8-0 in five innings as head coach Ashley Bunn recorded career victory No. 100 Thursday at Couch Field.

GMC (13-11) has won 12 of its last 17 and currently rides a four-game winning streak heading into Saturday’s doubleheader against the Piedmont College junior varsity that begins at 1 p.m. at Couch Field.

In Game 1, GMC fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first, but the Lady Bulldogs quickly rallied with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good.

Taylor Little and Morgan Tippens singled to lead off the inning and then Morgan Edwards came through with a two-strike, two-out double to give GMC a 2-1 lead.

Edwards led GMC with two hits and two RBI.

GMC added a single run in the fourth when Sara Alderman singled home Paige Richards to make it 3-1.

That would be all the support pitcher Brittany Rosenberry would need as the sophomore right-hander went the distance and allowed just one unearned run on four hits while striking out five and walking two.

Rosenberry added two hits in the game.

GMC took care of business early in Game 2 as the Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the first, three in the third and one in the fourth to pull away for the eight-run victory in five innings.

Courtney Kenney’s first homer of the season that also scored Edwards was the big blow in the four-run first inning that staked starting pitcher Kaitlyn Moore to a nice cushion right out of the gate.

Moore was solid in the circle and allowed just two hits and struck out seven while walking one in the five-inning triumph.

Moore also helped herself at the plate with a three-run homer – her first of the season – in the third that also scored Kirsten Albright and Edwards to make it 7-0.

GMC also got an RBI double from Albright to score Richards in the fourth to complete the scoring.

Albright paced the GMC offense with two hits, two RBI and a run scored while Edwards went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk.
