Helen Oh to Compete
in World Jr Pistol Championships
Georgia Military College student Helen Oh is headed to Granada, Spain, on September 6 to represent the United States in the 51st International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship. Oh, one of 82 shooters and members of the national team, will compete in the 10m Air Pistol Women Junior event.
Oh earned the opportunity to represent the United States by competing in the USA Shooting National Junior Pistol Championship at Fort Benning, Ga. in July, 2014. She placed second in that competition and said it was her most exciting competition to date. “In this competition I proved to myself that I could compete at this level and it was a great confidence builder for me,” Oh said.
Oh has also competed several times in the Junior Olympics at Colorado Springs, Colo., and in the Winter Air Gun Championships, also held in Colorado Springs.
Oh hails from Walnut, Calif. and attended John A. Rowland High School in Rowland Heights, Calif. She began shooting in her local club, Bridge Junior Shooting Club in La Puente, Calif., during her freshmen year of high school and excelled from the start. She and is one of two daughters in her family. Her older sister, Joanne Oh, is a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
Oh enjoys the competitions because of the new friendships she is able to establish around the different locations she travels. This event in Spain will be her first international competition and she is looking forward to again competing at the highest level and also to meeting new competitors as she travels to this exciting location.
As one of ten students participating in the Coast Guard preparatory program at GMC, Helen Oh will attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy when she leaves GMC.
