GMC Remembered – September 4

As we look forward to watching GMC Prep and GMC JC Football this weekend, please find below the next “GMC Remembered.”

GMC Remembered – September 4

This is Bulldog Country!!!

“We believe in clean, manly, sportsmanlike athletics and anything even bordering on impure sports is not countenanced at Georgia Military College” Georgia Military College 43rd Annual Announcement, 1921-22, page 83.

Cadets began to play football at Middle Georgia Military and Agricultural College in 1892.* In 2001, the Junior College Bulldogs were National Champions, a notable achievement, but that was not the first championship team to play on Davenport Field.

In 1921, the GMC Football team, a prep school team, outscored their opponents 297 to 0 and allowed no team to advance past their 20 yard line.   At the end of this incredibly successful season, they were named the Georgia Interscholastic Athletic Association Champions.

*The name of the school changed to Georgia Military College in 1900 but from 1879 until 1931 Georgia Military College was a prep school with grades one through twelve.  Junior College classes were added in the 1931-32 school year.
