GMC Rifle Team Begins with High Marks!

GMC Rifle Team Begins with High Marks! The GMC Rifles were a blazing on Saturday 28 September as they began their defense of their National Championship they won last year. Several of the GMC shooters shot a personal best effort on the day as they squeezed off 60 shots during the competition conducted in Griffin, GA at the Ole Mill Range. Their Range Director took over an old building that had at one time been a thriving mill. He, with a number of volunteers worked hard to convert the old mill to a great indoor rifle range. GMC’s, TEAM ROTC, shot a combined score of 2110 on the day which is considerably better than they normally shoot this early in the season says, Coach Mary Ellen Eaton, who has been the coach for the last seven years. Team ROTC was led by some great shooting from Plebe Richard Willingham who shot a 536 for the day followed closely by Plebe Ariel Vasquez with a score of 532. Team ROTC was rounded out by the fine shooting of Cadet Alexander Bueler shooting a score of 526 and Plebe Luke Torres scoring a 516 to finish out the combined score of 2110 for TEAM ROTC. TEAM GMC shot a total of 1990 for the day led by team captain Cameron Smith with a score of 516. Plebe Robin Rochester scored a 502 as he competed for the day. Plebe Cameron Schneberger and Cadet Howard Lane rounded out this team scoring 488 and 484, respectively. Georgia Military College competed against three other collegiate teams. Two of the teams were from the University of North Georgia and the final competitors were from Georgia Southern University, a new member to our conference this year. It was an exciting day of competition with over 42 competitors competing to become the number one shooter for the day. Though the University of North Georgia came away with the number one shooter for the day, it was a day for the young GMC Team (5 of 8 are freshmen) to compete at the collegiate level and to challenge themselves further, even though several of the young shooters shot their personal best for the day. The Coach for the GMC Bulldogs states; “This is a very talented group of shooters we have this year and I was very proud of their performance today. We shot better today, 6 of 8 shooters, shot over 500 which is the best I have seen this early in our season. I am really excited for this group of shooters as they have a great opportunity to win the National Title again this year.” Rifle Team Members include: Cameron Smith, Alexander Bueler, Howard Lane, Robin Rochester, Cameron Schneberger, Luke Torres, Ariel Vasquez, and Richard Willingham.
