Georgia Military College signs articulation agreement with Southern Polytechnic State University

Major General Peter J. Boylan, president of Georgia Military College (GMC) and Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) President Lisa A. Rossbacher signed an articulation agreement today, April 16, to allow GMC students to apply their associate degree credits toward SPSU baccalaureate degrees in information technology, biotechnology and environmental science. GMC students will be able to transfer degree credits without losing credit hours, providing a more seamless education. “GMC is a liberal arts-based, two-year college. Many of our students go on to pursue baccalaureate degrees at four-year colleges and universities, and our cadet program is a feeder program to both West Point and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. GMC has nine campuses throughout the state and close to 8,000 students,” Maj. Gen. Boylan noted. “SPSU offers significant opportunities for our students to further their education.” With the articulation agreement in place, GMC students who earn an Associate of Science (A.S.) in Information Technology will be able to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Information Technology from SPSU’s School of Computing and Software Engineering in approximately two additional years of full-time study. Likewise, GMC students with an A.S. in Biology will be able to earn a B.S. in Biotechnology or Environmental Science if the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approves these new degree programs proposed by SPSU’s School of Arts and Sciences. This articulation is consistent with Gov. Nathan Deal’s Complete College Georgia initiative designed to provide an improved educational pipeline from high school through college graduation, particularly in the STEM [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] fields that are our bread and butter.” GMC holds articulation agreements with a number of colleges and universities in Georgia, but the agreement with Southern Polytechnic State University is unique in that it guarantees admission into a specific program for GMC students who meet the requirements of the agreement.
