GMC’s first PINK OUT sponsored by the Middle School and Varsity Football/Competition Cheerleaders was a huge success, raising $2262 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Cancer Research. The Pink Out started with an idea sparked by senior cheerleading captain Leanna Harbor. MAJ Stephanie Williams, Cheerleading Coach, said “Leanna realized many GMC faculty and staff members and also prep school parents have dealt with or are currently dealing with breast cancer. Both squads (middle school and high school) took this idea and turned it into a community service project. With the approval of a dress down day by COL John Thornton, GMC Prep Principal, we began working with Apparel Ink to design a shirt that would match our cause, “Paws for the Cause: GMC PINK OUT 2011.” MAJ Williams said a total of 575 t-shirts were sold and the donation will be made in honor of all members of the GMC Family who have battled or are currently battling breast cancer.
