Valdosta holds School Supply Drive

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL DRIVE By: Mrs. Donna Brzezienski, Faculty Advisor for Valdosta Campus Student Service League, Department Chairperson for Behavioral Sciences and an Assistant Professor of Sociology. Every Fall I term the Student Service League hold a school supply drive for two area school, Dewar Elementary and Southeast Elementary. School supplies are donated by students, faculty, and staff. This year was our most successful year ever with a total of 2,697 items collected, which enabled us to give 1,348 items to each school. Every thing that is need for an elementary school classroom was included in the items donated, along with some extra items we are sure the teachers can use. The Student Service League is a very active organization at Georgia Military College. Students can devote as much time as their schedules allow. Along with the school supply drive, the Student Service League coordinates two blood drives, one in Fall I term and one in Spring term. During Fall II, our main concentration is a food drive in which all items donated are delivered to LAMP. We also try to hold a “New Baby Drive” for the mothers at New Horizons in January of each year. Students at GMC are extremely generous with their time and donations. Each year what ever project is undertaken has been more successful than the previous one and all the credit has to go to the students.
