Head Coach Bert Williams to be Honored October 2

GMC Head Coach Bert Williams will be honored on October 2, 2010 for his induction into the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame. Mr. David Elder, GJCAA Conference Commissioner and a member of the executive committee for the NJCAA, will present the award to Coach Williams during the half-time ceremony of the GMC Junior College vs. Southeast Prep Academy football game. In 1997, Coach Bert Williams came to Georgia Military College as the Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Football Coach. At the departure of Coach Robert Nunn to the NFL in February of 2000, Coach Williams was given the opportunity to become the third head coach and athletic director since the resumption of football at GMC in 1991. Over the decade beginning in 2000, Coach Bert Williams has led the Bulldogs through a period of great success and achievement which includes: · 82-25 record in ten seasons – ranks 6th among active coaches · Third Best winning percentage in the nation over the last decade · 2001 NJCAA National Championship · Runner-up in 2002 and 2005 · 2001 NJCAA National Coach of the Year · 1st NJCAA Coach of the Year honored at the American Football Coaches Association COY Banquet · 2002 American Football Monthly/Schutt Sports Junior College National Coach of the Year · Served at Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the NJCAA Football Coaches Association · Current President of the American Community College Football Coaches Association · During Coach Williams’ tenure at GMC as head coach: o Seven GMC teams have been selected to play in NJCAA Bowl Games o 47 GMC student athletes have been named as All-Americans o 21 GMC student athletes have made it to the NFL under Coach Williams’ guidance o GMC has placed more student athletes in division one schools (FBS and FCS) than any other school over the last decade
