SFC Van Dexter Rutledge Honored

SFC Van Dexter Rutledge was recently honored by COL John Thornton, GMC Prep Principal, for his leadership and exceptional service to the school’s Drill Team. Rutledge received accolades from the entire school during morning formation as he received an honorary plaque. COL Thornton said, “Twelve years ago Sgt. Van Dexter Rutledge took over the GMC Drill Team consisting of only three members. In just 12 years, he has taken that number and increased it to over 20. In his career as Drill Team Leader, he has led his team to win over 100 regional and state medals. Two cadets have received the Master Sergeant William “Chief” Tomahawk medal. In his tenure he has assisted in the first cadet winning 1st place in individual dual at region and the first female cadet to win 1st place at region and state. He has successfully led his dual to win 1st place and capture a perfect score at region. Most notable and most recently, ‘Sgt. Rock’ has led his team to selection to compete at the Masters Level at Nationals – this is the first time GMC has competed at Nationals and was one of only 50 schools chosen out of thousands.”
