GMC Prep competition cheerleaders complete two-day camp

GMC Prep competition cheerleaders complete two-day camp (Milledgeville) – Acrobatics, dancing, and excitement filled the Cordell Events Center on the campus of Georgia Military College on Friday, as the GMC Prep competition cheerleading squad wrapped up its two-day, on-campus camp The squad, made up of girls in ninth through 12th grade, came into the sessions focused on improving and finalizing its routines. “We’ve just been working on our competition routine,” said Jennifer Spencer, head cheer coach. “We’re just trying to start off the year. We’ll use these routines up until November when our region tournament kicks off.” The girls received assistance from a reliable source over the two-day event. Jimmy Redus, head cheerleading coach at Georgia College & State University, helped lead the camp. “He’s helping us with stunts and the cheer portion of our routine,” Spencer said. Nearly half of the 16-member squad is made of first-year members, but Spencer said she has seen good things from the girls and expects more of the same in the coming months. “They have great attitudes, and they work hard,” she said. “I think we’re going to have a great year.” Submitted by Ross Couch
