Environmental Science Class Special Project

GMC Prep seniors in MAJ Leigh Scott’s Environmental Science Class recently began a special project to identify all of the trees on GMC’s campus. Ms. Cindy Gilbert, a Landscape Architect, graciously met with the students to check their work and make sure they identified the trees correctly. Mr. Jim Gardner, Director of Lockerly Arboretum, facilitated ordering tree makers which will be posted on each tree in December. The next phase of the project will involve students doing research on the internet, resource guides, and books to compile data on each tree and include rubbings of sample leaves. MAJ Leigh Scott said, “The students then plan to publish a GMC Tree Identification Guide Book which can be accessed by visitors to our campus through Georgia’s Old Capital Museum or used by other classes for enrichment.”
