New Prep School Planned

NEW MILITARY PREP SCHOOL PLANNED 13WMAZ 4/19/2008 Author: Jake Wade Friday, the Georgia Military College Foundation announced plans for a brand new, state-of-the-art prep school. The campaign kicked off with a $1 million gift from former U.S. Secretary of Labor and GMC Alumnus, W.J. "Bill" Usery, Jr. Usery is a 1941 graduate of Georgia Military College and is proud of it. "The type of training and teaching that you get here are those lessons in life - many of them - that you don't get in any other school." GMC is home to students from the sixth grade through junior college. They all attend classes in a single building, so this is a change that some students are looking forward to. Sean Tighe, a ninth-grade student, says "students learn better in a new building. In our current middle school building it's older, but in this one we'll have more technology." Karmyn Fuller is just happy for the space. "I think it will be nice for us to have our own building where we won't have college students everywhere we go." The 80,000-square foot prep school is expected to cost $21.77 million. It will include 36 classrooms and labs, music rooms and a health clinic. The building will be ready for students by August 2010. Usery says he is glad to give back to a place that he credits much of his success. "It's an investment in the future as far as I'm concerned."
