Winter Quarter Blood Drive

By: Mrs. Brenda S. Brown Community Service Coordinator The Winter Quarter Blood Drive at Georgia Military College was declared not only a success but one for the record books as the school record was shattered again by the donation of 110 units of blood collected in the five hour drive. Held on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 in the minigym of Cordell Events Center, it was staffed by the Armed Services Blood Program from Ft. Gordon, Georgia. The units will be provided to the military at no cost to them or their family. The donated blood will be processed, and shipped, and will arrive in Iraq in less than a week. In addition to the junior college cadets who volunteered, students in Mrs. Cynthia Anderson’s classes provided needed assistance at various areas throughout the five hour drive; as always, donations from the staff and faculty are greatly appreciated. In what became the catalyst by which we surpassed our former record, Ms. Leigh Scott gathered twenty-one seventeen-year old prep school students, brought them to the minigym, and persuaded them to become first-time blood donors. In addition to the previously mentioned individuals, we send a round of applause to Ms. Sharon McClung, COL John Thornton, Phi Theta Kappa members, the Nursing Club, and the loyal staff and faculty members who support the blood donor program at Georgia Military College, in various capacities, throughout the year.
