GMC Prep Student Receives Presidential Scholarship to Mercer University GMC Prep School senior Rudy Mills was recently awarded a Presidential Scholarship to attend Mercer University in the fall of 2008. The value of this full-tuition, four-year scholarship is over $120,000. Mr. Mills was selected as one of the top 340 out of 5,100 applicants invited to participate in the scholarship competition. According to Ms. Anna Sandison, Mercer’s Coordinator of University Relations, of these top 340 applicants, 140 students received Presidential Scholarships. She said, “Although there are no set criteria for the scholarship, this year’s recipients had an average GPA of 3.93 and an average SAT of 1390.” Mills, who began attending GMC Prep in the eighth grade, plans to major in Biology and pursue a guaranteed admission to Mercer Medical School. He said, “I want to be a doctor because I would like to give back to the community. Since I am one-fourth Hispanic, I plan to minor in Spanish and focus my medical career on helping the Hispanic population in particular.” Rudy Mills serves as Battalion Commander, the highest leadership position for the prep school. He is an active member of his church’s youth group, an avid photographer with his own website (www.rudymills.net), and a distance runner. His parents are Sherrie and Taron Durden of Gray, Georgia.
