Powder Puff Football for Charity
Christian Zajicek, a GMC Prep School ninth grader, recently organized a powder puff football game to raise money for the Heart of Georgia Humane Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Oconee. All ninth grade English students were tasked with creating a proposal as the final product of the Technical Communications unit in English. According to Christian’s English teacher, MAJ Shannon Davis, many students made a proposal to their parents for a new cell phone, a car, or permission to redecorate their rooms, but Christian decided to propose a charity powder puff football game to the principal, COL John Thornton. MAJ Davis said, “Christian had to create interview questions, interview COL Thornton to identify his concerns, and then create a proposal, complete with PowerPoint presentation and fact sheet, to pitch to COL Thornton one day during class. COL Thornton was impressed with her proposal and approved the project.” Christian then worked with various offices on campus to organize the time, date, and location. She also worked with MAJ Kathie Deen and MAJ Amy Raines to arrange for volunteers to collect the $1 admission fee and operate the concession stand. She created a FaceBook page and posters to let the student population know the details. Christian’s event was a resounding success, raising $660 for two worthy causes.
