Huff Elected President
Alvin Huff, a junior at Georgia Military College Prep School, was recently elected to serve as president of the Georgia National Honor Society (GANHS) State Board. Alvin was elected during the GANHS State Convention held April 15-17 in Jekyll Island. He attended a transition meeting and received orientation about his new position on May 3. As GANHS president, Alvin will help to plan and host the state convention in April 2008, as well as the National Honor Society convention which will be held in Atlanta in November 2007. He said, “I knew after attending the convention last year that I wanted to run for president, and I am very excited about this opportunity.” Alvin is the first student from Georgia Military College Prep School to hold this office. Alexis Hightower, also a junior at GMC Prep, served as Alvin’s campaign manager during the three-day state convention. She led the GMC delegation, which consisted of 17 students, in lobbying for Alvin among the 150 students who were in attendance from throughout the state. Alvin appointed Alexis to serve as parliamentarian, and she will help him fulfill his responsibilities and duties as president. MAJ Leigh Scott, GMC National Honor Society advisor, said, “What is remarkable about this group of young people is that they impress strangers enough to make mention of their behavior to me. I received many compliments about these students and am very proud of them.” Alvin Huff is the son of Pecola Huff of Milledgeville. At GMC, he holds the rank of Cadet First Lieutenant. He is a member of the chorus, marching band, jazz band, concert band, science club, French Honor Society, and National Honor Society. Alexis Hightower is the daughter of Bennie and Verdine Young and Terry and Tricia Hightower of Milledgeville. At GMC, she holds the rank of Cadet Second Lieutenant and is a member of the varsity basketball team, marching band, jazz band, concert band, Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, and science club.
