Center for Lifelong Learning Expands
The Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL) at Gwynedd-Mercy College has further extended its adult accelerated programs in Center City Philadelphia and has begun offering several new programs in Pottstown in upper Montgomery County.

Through an arrangement with Montgomery County Community College , CLL will hold classes at the newly established University Center , located at 16 High Street in Pottstown. The Center for Lifelong Learning is offering a bachelor of science degree in nursing (RN required) at the West Campus in Pottstown, with plans to offer a master of science degree in nursing in the future. CLL will also offer a bachelor of science degree in health care leadership and supervision (requires an allied health license, certificate, and/or registry). Students enrolled at the University Center will have access to classrooms with smart technology, computer laboratories and library services.

Dr. Kathleen Owens, president of Gwynedd-Mercy College, stated, “The establishment of the University Center presents a rich opportunity for students to be lifelong learners -- a value at the heart of the mission of Gwynedd-Mercy College.  This center is a testimony not only to the importance of access to education, but also to the ingenious spirit of collaboration. We are pleased to continue our long and valued relationship with Montgomery County Community College in this new venue.”

Gwynedd-Mercy is one of three colleges at the University Center providing a full ladder of certificate, associate, baccalaureate, master and doctoral offerings to Pottstown area residents and employees. The arrangement with Gwynedd-Mercy and the other two institutions - Pierce College and Albright College - will increase access to higher education beyond the associate degree level offered by Montgomery County Community College.

Gwynedd-Mercy's Center from Lifelong Learning is also reaching out to adults who work in center city Philadelphia . Beginning this fall, CLL will offer classes across from Independence Hall in the Public Ledger building at 6 th and Chestnut Streets. Adult learners can complete degrees in the accelerated format in the associate of science in Business, bachelor of science in Business, the bachelor of science in Nursing (RN required), and the bachelor of science in Health Care Leadership and Supervision (requires an allied health license, certificate, and/or registry). CLL has been running degree programs at other locations in the city of Philadelphia since 2003 and is excited about having their very own learning center. The College will be having a Grand Opening celebration to allow individuals to tour the facility, meet instructors and learn more about the programs. Look for an invitation to be posted soon on www.gmc.edu for an opportunity to find out more about programs that CLL has to offer for adults living and/or working in center city Philadelphia.

Earn A Degree Of Difference
Earning a college degree has become more critical with time. The business environment in Philadelphia and surrounding communities has become more competitive and employers are looking at academic credentials more closely than ever. In addition to providing a greater sense of "job security," statistics show you could earn up to 30% more for an Associate's Degree and up to 60% more with a Bachelor's Degree, compared to someone with a high school diploma (U.S. Census Bureau, 1997).

Although everyone recognizes the value and positive impact of education, time and convenience may be two hurdles that prevent many adults from realizing their goals. Now, there is an alternative. Gwynedd-Mercy College's Center for Lifelong Learning in Fort Washington offers accelerated degree programs for working adults. Classes meet one evening a week for four hours with learning teams that also meet weekly for four hours.

In just 28 - 30 months, you can earn an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration; or in just 21 - 22 months, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Health Science Degree in Health Care Leadership and Supervision or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (requires RN license). Whichever one you complete, it's a degree of difference that can enrich your life, advance your career and fulfill your dreams.

Raising The Bar In Health Care Education
Just as the Business Industry has "raised the bar" with regard to educational requirements for new hires and those employees aspiring to be upwardly mobile - the Health Care Industry is following suit. No longer are "on the job" experience and longevity sufficient criteria for promotion.

In keeping with meeting the needs of Health Care employers, Gwynedd-Mercy College's Center for Lifelong Learning is pleased to announce a brand new offering at its Fort Washington location - the Bachelor of Health Science Degree in Health Care Leadership and Supervision (BHS).

As with all other programs available at the "Center," the BHS is an accelerated degree completion program, meeting one night a week for four hours, with learning teams that meet for four hours as well. The program can be completed in 22 months.

The BHS degree program is restricted to allied health professionals who meet the following requirements: have a valid and current health care professional license or registry; have an associate degree or graduated from a hospital-based program approved by the appropriate credentialling agency; and have two or more years full-time work experience within the professional field of licensure and registration.

Anyone interested in learning more about this or other accelerated degree programs for working adults should contact Mary Dignan at (215) 643-8458; ext. 103.
