Gwynedd-Mercy College's English as a Second Language Program provides international students with the skills they need to feel confident in speaking, listening to, writing and reading English.
New students are tested and placed in appropriate levels of English study.

- Proof of financial ability to meet all expenses
while studying in the USA
- Prospective students must be prepared to pay all expenses: tuition, insurance, housing while in the USA. Expenses at GMC for academic year (fall and spring semesters) may average $15,000
- GMC assumes no financial responsibilities for any student
- If Embassy denies visa to student, the deposit will be returned
- DHL fee + shipping and handling
- Deadline for application: Fall Semester - 7/1; Spring Semester - 10/1
- Students are highly encouraged to complete two consecutive semesters (one year) of the ESL program in order to receive a completion certificate
Students seeking a degree after ESL must send all transcripts (in English) to Admissions Office. Students must have a minimum of 71 on the internet-based TOEFL, 525 on the written TOEFL, 195 on the computer based TOEFL, or 88 on the MTLP before entering college program. PACE (Program in American Culture & English) provides students new to the USA with transition time to adjust to cultures and academic styles used in higher education.

Student Activities
ESL students have full use of all services and facilities of the College. These include the International Center for Understanding Cultures, student union, library, fitness center, gymnasium and pool.
One of the best-attended events at Gwynedd-Mercy is International Night, which is created each year by the ESL students. On this evening, students wear their native dress, showcase their talents and offer sample cuisine from their countries.
College Sponsored Activities
ESL students may also participate in the activities and events sponsored by Gwynedd-Mercy College. These activities include athletics, choir and drama. For a full list of activities sponsored by the College, click here.

International Night 
Thursday, November 13th 5:30-8pm
Julia Ball Auditorium
Each fall, students and the community experience diverse cultural customs during International Night, held at the College. The event is free of charge.
Guests experience different cultural traditions as Gwynedd-Mercy College students from various countries entertain the audience through music and dance. Additionally, attendees are able to satisfy their palettes by sampling wondrous cuisines from around the world.
