Peer Mentoring Association

Peer Mentors are students who volunteer their time to provide service to the Gwynedd-Mercy College community. Peer Mentors are trained by the Counseling Center staff to support other students, to make referrals to the Counseling Center, and to educate the campus community regarding issues of health and wellness.

Purpose
The purpose of the Peer Mentoring Association is:

  • to be available to students who are experiencing difficulties that are affecting their academic success and personal lives.
  • to promote and/or sponsor programs aimed at addressing issues impacting college students (e.g. relationships, drug/alcohol use, family issues, sexual assault, eating disorders, AIDS, depression/suicide, etc.)
  • to serve as a referral network for the Counseling Services Staff
  • to serve as peer mentors for new students

Membership
Application for membership is open to all undergraduate students in the Gwynedd-Mercy College community. Members must be in good standing (academic - minimum 2.0 GPA - and disciplinary). Attendance at the fall and spring training programs are mandatory. Participation in one Service Project per semester and active participation on one committee per semester is required. Inability to meet the requirements of membership may result in termination of membership.
