Best Buddies is an international organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of people with disabilities. The college members of Best Buddies are paired with individuals from the community who have special needs for the purpose of friendship and socialization. The members of Best Buddies interact with their buddies through on and off campus events, individual outings, and Best Buddies-sponsored programs. Each education major is considered a member of the education club and highly encouraged to attend our twice monthly meetings. The education club works on events such as professional development opportunities, book drives, guest speakers, a Halloween celebration, and also a field day for a partner school in Philadelphia. Gwynedd Mercy Association for Education of Young Children GMAEYC is the GMC chapter of the Delaware Valley Association for the Education of Young Children, and is an advocate for early childhood education. As members of the chapter, students exude a level of professionalism and promote best practices in early childhood education. Members also become educated about current trends and are informed about what is happening politically regarding early childhood education. The Psychology Club is open to students from all majors interested in psychological issues. The club is designed to create opportunities for students to share their common interests, learn about current psychological research, talk to well-known psychologists, receive guidance in applying for graduate school through career fairs, conduct research, and attend and present at local and national conferences. Special Education Club (Council for Exceptional Children: CEC) The special education club at Gwynedd-Mercy College is dedicated to all persons with special needs. We highlight students with special needs since most of us will someday be teaching these students. Furthermore, as a newly formed organization on campus, we focus greatly on raising funds and look forward to hosting our big event in the Spring of 2011 which will be our Special Education Walk.
