Institute of Management Accountants Announces Student Chapter at GMC

The North Penn Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) is adopting Gwynedd-Mercy College’s Business Club as an exclusive student group. A chartering presentation was held on Dec. 6 at the William Penn Inn, located in Lower Gwynedd, Pa.

The unique partnership will allow students to gain firsthand accounting and finance experience, while networking with area business leaders. Gwynedd-Mercy College professor Carlo Silvesti was instrumental in uniting the two groups, as he has been a longtime member of the IMA.

"We are excited and committed to assisting Gwynedd-Mercy College students enter their finance and accounting careers with the advantage of a place to strengthen their skills, connect with their peers and expand their career potential for many years," North Penn Chapter President Beth Mueller said.

In the past, the North Penn Chapter has brought guest speakers to campus and encouraged the students to apply for an annual scholarship. This year’s core group of 12 students—who span from sophomores to seniors—are thrilled to have this opportunity available.

“I really just want to see the students here succeed and joining the IMA is helping our students make that step toward being successful in life,” Student Chapter President Dan Ressler said.

The IMA is the worldwide association for accountants and financial professionals working in business. The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential is offered by the IMA. Continued education seminars are provided to fulfill requirements for both the CMA and CPA designations. Visit the chapter at www.northpenn.imanet.org or the main website at www.imanet.org.
