Gwynedd-Mercy College serves hundreds through holiday outreach efforts

On Dec. 16, the Office of Campus Ministry delivered gifts to all 110 children in the Before and After Child Care Program for Mercy Neighborhood Ministries of Philadelphia, Inc., a non-profit organization in the Tioga section of the city.

The Voices of Gwynedd selected and wrapped gifts while the community service committee of the Alumni Board donated games and puzzles for the children to use while at the center. West Chester University’s Bear Fair also contributed 110 teddy bears to GMC’s distribution.

The delivery was just one part of the College’s outreach efforts this season. Students, faculty and staff donated gifts to those served by Mercy Neighborhood Ministries’ day program for adults with special needs in December.

In November, the Office of Campus Ministry brought 100 bags of Thanksgiving groceries to Mercy Neighborhood Ministries of Philadelphia. GMC athletes and other students, as well as students from Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School, donated the items. Gift cards for each family were also donated by several generous benefactors.

Every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas, Gwynedd-Mercy College faculty and staff help to support families of an independent Catholic school in North Philadelphia who are in difficult economic and family circumstances. The College provides 15-20 families with an entire Thanksgiving meal and gifts for Christmas.
