Two Types of Article Indexes

2. Subject Indexes

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject index. Subject indexes specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:

CINAHL
Indexes articles in allied health, nursing, and medical sciences. Accessed through EbscoHost, CINAHL indexes over 1700 journals.
JStor
Contains full-text journal articles from over 100 publications primarily in the humanities, including literature, history, economics, mathematics, and philosophy.
WilsonWeb
A variety of subject indexes are available through WilsonWeb, including Education Full Text, Social Sciences Full Text, and Humanities Full Text.
Permission pending from CINAHL and WilsonWeb. Permission for JSTOR via http://www.jstor.org/resources/logos/
