Scholarships and Grants:
Scholarships and grants are regarded as 'gift' assistance which need not be repaid; however, some of these may carry certain provisions to which one must adhere. Several types of scholarships and grants, consisting of remission in whole or in part of the yearly tuition, are available.
Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship is available for first time freshmen only. Students must have SAT scores of at least 1200. An on-campus visit is required. The scholarship is valued at full tuition and is renewable for three years as long as recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3. Dean's Scholarship
The Dean's Scholarship is available for first-time freshmen only. Students must have SAT scores of at least 1200. Also, applicants must come on campus for a visit and personal interview with the Scholarship Committee. The Dean's Scholarship is valued at $13,000 and is renewable for three years as long as the recipient continues to meet all eligibility requirements and maintains a culumative grade point average of at least 3.0.
Heritage Scholarship
The Heritage Scholarship is named to recognize the tradition of Mercy values of Service, Compassion and Competence. It is available to first-time freshmen only. Student must have SAT scores of at least 1200. The Heritage Scholarship is valued at $10,000 and is renewable for three years as long as the recipient continues to meet all eligibilty requirements and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
McAuley Scholarship
The McAuley Scholarship is available for first time freshmen only. Students must have SAT scores of at least 1100. The scholarship is valued at $8,000 and is renewable for three years as long as recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Mother Mary Bernard Award
The Mother Mary Bernard Award is available for first time freshmen only. Students must have SAT scores of at least 1000. The scholarship is valued at $7,000 and is renewable for three years as long as recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
Transfer Scholarship
The Transfer Scholarship is available for students transferring into Gwynedd-Mercy from another postsecondary institution. Student's cumulative GPA must be at least 3.0 based on full-time enrollment and completion of at least thirty credits. The scholarship ranges from $7,000 to $8,500 and is renewable for a maximum of three years as long as recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Activities Grant
The Activities Grant is available for first-time freshmen students who demonstrate leadership in school actvities and/or community service. Student must have SAT scores of at least 850. The grant is values at $5,000 and is renewable for three years as long as the recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Military Recognition Scholarship Program:
This scholarship program has been established to recognize and support the fine women and men who are serving our country.
Active Duty Servicemembers
Along with getting 30% off the tuition, Active Duty Military are also able to take every fifth class tuition-free. There is a $2 per credit comprehensive fee.
Guard and Reserve
Full-time Students
Gwynedd-Mercy College may award a $6,000 Military Recognition Scholarship to accepted full-time students who are members of National Guard or are active reservists.
Recipients of the Military Recognition Scholarship are required to continue their service and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.0 while students at Gwynedd-Mercy College . They must also remain enrolled on a full-time basis in a program leading to an associate's or bachelor's degree. The Scholarship will be renewable for one year pursuant of an associate's, and three years pursuant of a bachelor's degree contingent on satisfactory academic progress.
Gwynedd-Mercy College applies the Scholarship towards recipients' tuition after they enroll as full-time students. In accordance with Gwynedd-Mercy College policy, Institutional Financial Aid may be adjusted whenever total institutional awards, merit- and/or need-based, in whole or combination, exceed 50 percent of tuition charges.
Part-time Students
Part-time students receive a 30% discount on the tuition fee in addition to the monies received from their branch and/or unit. The recipient requirements of part-time students are concurrent with that of full-time students.

Institutional Scholarships and Grants
Selection of College Scholarship/Grant recipients will be made by the Student Financial Aid Committee after review of the completed applications. Decisions are based on criteria listed and no additional application is needed. Eligibility is contingent on matriculation in a degree program, full-time enrollment, and satisfactory academic progress.
Alumni Association Scholarship in Memory of Mother Catherine McAuley
The Alumni Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship award offered to one new entering student on the basis of academic achievement and involvement in extra-curricular and/or community activities. Financial need is considered but is not necessarily a determining factor. Preference will be given to children of an alumna/alumnus. The scholarship is renewable annually for three years contingent on full-time enrollment and maintenance of a 3.0 cumulative average.
Catholic High School Tuition Grant
The Catholic High School Tuition Grant (TIP) is for first time incoming freshmen who are graduates of Catholic high schools. They are eligible for a $2,000 grant per year. Eligible students may renew the grant up to three years as long as they are enrolled full time and are in good academic standing.
Sister Marie Denise Scholarship
Sister Marie Denise Scholarship awards ranging from $2,000 to $8,000 are based on academic achievement and financial need. The Sister Marie Denise Scholarship is renewable annually upon reapplication if the student maintains a cumulative average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need.
Gwynedd-Mercy Scholarship
The Gwynedd-Mercy Scholarship is a partial tuition award based on academic achievement and financial need. The Gwynedd-Mercy Scholarship is renewable annually upon reapplication if the student maintains a cumulative average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need.
Sister Mary Gregory Scholarship
Named to honor Sister Mary Gregory, revered professor and second president of Gwynedd-Mercy College, this scholarship is awarded to students 25 years of age or older and is based on academic achievement. Transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 The scholarship is renewable annually contingent on reapplication, maintenance of a 3.0 cumulative GPA and continued eligibility. Financial need, though considered, may not be a determining factor.
Josephine C. Connelly Scholarship
A Josephine C. Connelly Schlarship is a partial tuition scholarship available from the Connelly Education Fund for new-entering, highly-motivated students pursuing a degree on a full time basis. Academic achievements and participation in the life of the College or one's community are required. Applicants must satisfy all requirements of the admission and the financial aid processes. The scholarship will be renewed annually upon reapplication and maintenance of satisfactory academic progress.
Gwynedd-Mercy Grant
The Gwynedd-Mercy Grant is a partial tuition award based on financial need. Students must have SAT scores of at least 800. The Gwynedd-Mercy Grant is renewable annually for a maximum of three years contingent on re-application, continued eligibility, and maintenance of at least 2.3 cumulative GPA. Financial need, though considered, may not be a determining factor.
The Founders Grant
Named to honor those whose wisdom, industry, and perseverance helped to establish Gwynedd-Mercy College, the Founders Grant provides partial tuition assistance based on financial need for students over 25 years of age. Transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.3. The grant is renewable annually contingent on reapplication and continued eligibility. Financial need, though considered, may not be a determining factor.
Griffin Grant
The Griffin Grant has been funded through the generosity of the college's many benefactors and friends. The Grant ranges from $1,000 to $9,000 annually and is awarded to students enrolled on a full time basis and pursuing a bachelor's degree. Students must have SAT scores of at least 850. The grant is renewable annually for a maximum of three years contingent on re-application, continued eligibility, and maintenance of a cumulative GPA of at least 2.3. Financial need, though considered, may not be a determining factor.
The Sister Isabelle Keiss Memorial Scholarship
Named and funded in honor of Sister Isabelle Keiss, third president of Gwynedd-Mercy College, this scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student on the basis of academic achievement, need, leadership ability, and demonstrated evidence of a commitment to community service. The scholarship recipient will be expected to invest time, talent, and energy in the life of the college. The Sister Isabelle Keiss Memorial Scholarship is renewable annually upon reapplication if the student maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrates financial need.
Mayor James E. Mullen Scholarship
The Mayor James E. Mullen Scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated active participation in service projects as a volunteer in high school, college and/or other community programs or organizations. Financial need will also be considered, but will not always be a determining factor.
W. W. Smith Charitable Trust Scholarship
The W. W. Smith Scholarship is a $2,500 award offered to academically-qualified students who are residents of the Delaware Valley, give evidence of involvement in extra-curricular and/or community service activities and who demonstrate financial need. Scholarships are renewable annually if students continue to meet qualifications.
Marie-Louise Vermeiren Jackson Scholarship
The Marie-Louise Vermeiren Jackson Scholarship award is offered to a student majoring in the field of education. This student must demonstrate strong academic potential and prove financial need. The scholarship ranges in amount from $1,000 to $5,000 and is automatically renewable contingent on the student's reapplication and maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 3.3.
Rosemarie Zaro Scholarship
This scholarship, named in memory of Rosemarie Zaro '83, is offered to incoming students or currently enrolled degree candidates. The selection committee will award the scholarship to women based on academic capability, financial need and career goals, with special emphasis given to women with children or unique family responsibilities.
Charlotte W. Newcombe Scholarship
A Charlotte W. Newcombe Scholarship is an award offered to women 25 years old or older who are bachelor degree candidates. Policy of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation stipulates that Newcombe Scholarships be awarded to women who are academically capable, have serious career goals, are in need of financial assistance and have completed half the credits necessary for their bachelor degree.
William Randolph Hearst Scholarship
This scholarship is available for students enrolled in Gwynedd-Mercy's Nursing program. Preference will be given to persons of Hispanic/Latino heritage. Recipient must exhibit strong academic record and be enrolled full time. The scholarship is renewable annually contingent on re-application, continued eligibility and maintenance of a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Wilma Lynch Scholarship
This scholarship, named in memory of Wilma Lynch, who desired to assist in the empowerment of underprivileged women, will benefit female minority students with first preference given to nursing students. The scholarship will be renewed annually upon re-application and maintenance of satisfactory academic progress.
Sister Linda Bevilacqua Scholarship
This scholarship, named after Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, fourth president of the College, is offered to incoming students or currently enrolled degree candidates who are education majors pursuing the degree on a full time basis. The scholarship is automatically renewable contingent on the student's re-application and maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 3.3.
C. Jules and Martina K. Rominger Scholarship
This scholarship is endowed by Dr. Jules Rominger and his wife, Martina. Dr. Rominger is the Medical Advisor of the Radiation Therapy Technology program. It will be awarded with preference to students showing evidence of financial need, enrolling in an allied health program, especially in radiation therapy with a secondary preference given to a student enrolling in nursing. Preference will also be given to an Irish student or a European foreign student. A full scholarship may be awarded for two years or a partial scholarship for four years.
Federal Pell Grant
The Pell Grant is a federal aid program which provides grants ranging in amount from $400 to $4,050, depending on the student's eligibility as determined by federal methodology. To receive consideration, the student must be enrolled for a minimum of three credits per semester in a degree or certificate program. Since the Federal Pell Grant is the foundation of all financial aid, all aid applicants are required to apply for this Grant. The Student Financial Aid Committee will develop the financial aid package with the appropriate Pell Grant expectation.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is a federal aid program which provides grants ranging from $100 to $4,000 annually to Pell Grant recipients who demonstrate exceptional financial need.
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
For undergraduates receiving Pell Grants who are U.S. citizens enrolled full-time in their first or second academic year of study. Students need to have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study and graduated from high school after January 1, 2006. Grants range from $970-$1,300.
National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National Smart Grant)
For undergraduates receiving Pell Grants who are U.S. Citizens enrolled full-time in their third or fourth academic year, majoring in physical life, computer sciences, engineering, technology, mathematics, or a critical-need foreign language and have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Grants range up to $4,000.
Pennsylvania State Grants (PHEAA)
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency provides state grants ranging from $400 to $4,500 annually. PHEAA requires that the program of study be at least two academic years in duration and that the student carry a minimum of six (6) credits per semester. The state grant may be awarded for a total of four academic years contingent upon annual application and continued eligibility. Veterans who satisfy all other PHEAA eligibility requirements may be entitled to a full ($4,500) state grant. Filing deadline: May 1. The state grant is the floor of financial aid and all aid applicants are required to apply for this type of assistance. The financial aid package will be developed with the appropriate state grant expectation.

State Grants/Scholarships
Many states administer grant/scholarship programs for students attending colleges both in and out-of-state. All students applying to Gwynedd-Mercy College for financial aid are required to apply for state funds wherever available. Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia offer state grants for their residents who are studying in another state. Applicants should consult guidance counselors and/or state agencies for information.
