Eligibility and Requirements

To be eligible for any of the government-funded programs, the student must be:

A United States citizen or an eligible non-citizen
A regular student enrolled for the purpose of obtaining a degree or certificate
Making satisfactory academic progress toward completion of a chosen program of study
In need of financial aid as determined by the Federal Methodology needs analysis system

Financial need is determined on the basis of information supplied on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

All applicants are analyzed according to a formula known as the Federal Methodology.

In determining the extent of a student's need, consideration is given to both:

The amount of support which may be expected from all family sources
Those factors which affect a family's financial strength, such as taxes, number of dependents, debts, and all other educational responsibilities and retirement needs

Financial aid is awarded for one academic year at a time:

Students must reapply annually for renewal of aid
Renewal depends upon continued financial need and satisfactory academic progress

PLEASE NOTE: Students who have already earned a bachelor's degree are not eligible for federal, state, or college grants and scholarships.

Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress

Federal regulations require that students who are receiving financial aid from federal, state, or institutional sources must satisfy the following standards in order to maintain eligibility for financial aid.

Full-time Students

Successful completion of a minimum of 24 credit hours for each two semesters of financial aid received
Maintenance of a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 for upperclassmen and 1.8 for freshmen

Part-time Students

Successful completion of a minimum of 12 credit hours for each two semesters of financial aid received
Maintenance of a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 for upperclassmen and 1.8 for freshmen
