The Associate Degree in Nursing provides students with an academic foundation in nursing on top of clinical experience. As students move through the rigorous curriculum, they are supported by attentive professors in both the classroom and small clinical group settings and they are mentored by a nursing faculty advisor. Students quickly receive hands-on experience, starting their clinicals after the first month of classes. Upon completion of the Associates Nursing Degree program, students are eligible to take the Registered Nurse Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) in order to begin providing direct care to patients and become a licensed RN. Most graduates pursue the Bachelor of Science degree program at Gwynedd Mercy University and the Associate of Science in Nursing is articulated with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program which requires the equivalent of two years of either full-time or part-time study.
We are proud to say that graduates of the ASN first time NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) passing rate for 10/1/12 to 9/30/13 was 84%. The national first time passing rate was 84.29%.
The Associate of Science in Nursing Program prepares graduates for entry-level nursing practice as nurse generalists. Students are assisted to develop service oriented and caring behaviors in clinical practice by recognizing, responding to, and valuing caring as the foundation for the profession of nursing. Students integrate concepts from the physical, social and behavioral sciences and humanities with nursing knowledge and evidence-based practice. Using the nursing process as a critical thinking framework students provide safe, quality and individualized nursing care to patients and families within a community context.
