The history degree with secondary education certification seeks to educate students' search for truth through excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and service, thus developing students with knowledge, technological competence, aesthetic and ethical values to be successful in a global society. The bachelor of arts degree will provide history majors with an educational environment and experience that will prepare them to teach at the secondary school level, or to find employment in law, government service, industry, and other public and private sectors.
Students combine their studies for a degree in history with 39 credits in secondary education for Pennsylvania Certification in Social Studies or other majors or minors. Currently history students with a bachelor’s degree and Pennsylvania Secondary Certification in Social Studies can expect to receive a starting salary of $40,000+ in the Philadelphia region, depending, of course, upon the individual school district in question.
