Master of Science in Education:
Grades 4-8 Mathematics and Science Certifications
(42 Credits)

Gwynedd Valley Campus

Candidates must emerge from post-baccalaureate programs with the same mastery of content, pedagogy and human development in their masters degree and certificate area that their peers in pre-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs achieve.

Gwynedd-Mercy College offers a unique program in which students work toward certification in Grades 4-8 (upper elementary/middle school) with Mathematics and Science education while taking courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. This certification is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree and a background in Science and Mathematics other than Education. After completing the program for certification, students continue coursework completing a Master of Science degree in Education.

A growing number of persons with a bachelor's degree in a field other than education are seeking a position in the teaching profession. The Pennsylvania Department of Education recognizes the need for well-prepared teachers to enter the field of education, and has approved Gwynedd-Mercy College as a provider of this post-baccalaureate certification and master degree program.

If a student needs to step out of the program for a semester, the student should have this approved by their advisor.
